The 4-day workweek is good for us, good for society, and good for business.
Workers
3 day weekend, every week
More time to spend with friends, family, and hobbies
Dramatically lower levels of stress and burnout
More job satisfaction
Society
AI can work for us, instead of replacing us
Lessens the burden on working mothers
Reduces carbon emissions (one less day of commuting!)
Employers
95% of companies that try it decide to keep it
Increased productivity
Improved retention and turnover rates
No loss in revenue
And we should’ve had it a long time ago.
The economy and the 5-day workweek aren’t working for us. They’re working for the 1%.
When a new technology comes along, it lets us do the same amount of work in less time. And in the 85 years since we adopted the 5-day workweek, we’ve seen the rise of the internet, computers, smartphones, manufacturing robots, big data, cloud computing, productivity software, and many other incredible advances.
With each new invention, a choice was possible - reduce hours for workers, allowing us to enjoy more of our lives, or keep workers on the same schedule and generate more profit.
The past choices are clear because we’re still working the same hours as we were in 1940.
Extractive capitalism has created a world where regular people are being forced to prioritize work over family and friends to give the 1% the freedom to spend their time however they like.
You can help change that.
